After returning home from my military service I bounced around from job to job, working tirelessly just to keep myself busy. I wasn't satisfied with the direction I was going, and that is when I discovered that I could use my talents as an artist to help make a real impact in the world of communicating scientific discovery.
Background
In 2024 I enrolled in the undergraduate Scientific Illustration and Visualization program at Iowa State University, honing my skills as an artist alongside learning new softwares, techniques, and processes to help elevate my work from a common hobby to an academic-level communication device. Alongside a very developed program, being a part of a R1 level institution offered plenty of opportunities to work hand in hand with researchers from various fields conducting vastly different levels of research. Witnessing, and in some cases being involved with, various levels of research projects has helped me work more effectively as a scientific illustrator.
While traditional art is the backbone of any artist, it is not the limitation of my abilities as a scientific illustrator. As scientific discovery advances, so must the methods we use to communicate these ideas. Animations, 3D models, Surgical trainers, are all great examples of how I am not just an illustrator, but a communicator at my core.
Illustrative Process
On any project, having an in-depth understanding of the material I am communicating is paramount. I encourage hands on collaboration through every steop of the process, from developing concepts to finalizing full scale renders, its important to me that you feel confident in the delivery of your message.
Core Values
Guiding principles that define my approach to scientific communication and the creative process.
Scientific Accuracy
Every illustration is grounded in rigorous research and anatomical precision, ensuring your scientific narrative is visually credible.
Visual Clarity
The key to effective visual storytelling is ensuring that the viewer is captivated by the image. This means combining accuracy and aesthetics to develop effective illustrations.
Collaboration
Working hand in hand with researchers elevates my ability as an artist to give you the product you deserve. Being able to take part of numerous research trails spanning a wide range of scientific topics help separate me from a traditional artist.
Professional Integrity
Transparent communication and a commitment to ethical standards in all client interactions and project development. Maintaining constant professional communication throughout the process is key to developing lasting relations with my clients.
